Ova supply from Stofnfiskur to Chile has not been affected by the volcano eruption.


The volcanic eruption that occurred 200 meters below the Eyjafjallajokull glacier in the south of Iceland hasn’t caused any damage to the hatchery facilities of Stofnfiskur´s Company. Executives of the company assure that the ova deliveries will not be threatened as their air route is through New York (USA) continuing on direct flight to Santiago, Chile.

Stofnfiskur member of Salmon Chile

On the meeting held in Puerto Montt on December 18th 2009 by the Directive Council of Salmon Chile, the Chilean salmon and trout growers association, it was decided to accept Stofnfiskur Chile Ltda as a associated member in the "productor" status from  January 1st 2010.

To make ”Robust Salmon” Stofnfiskur has started challenge tests for diseases on their families of Atlantic salmon.


Stofnfiskur recently sent a shipment of firstfeeding ready salmon alevins to VESO Vikan in Norway for challenge testing against IPNV. These are alevins from all the families in the breeding program that were spawned this summer. In August VESO Vikan received PIT tagged 15 gram fish from every family from last falls spawning. These have now been tested for ISA.
